Following Arsenal’s horrendous 3-1 loss to West Brom away, the…
Arsenal had a good start signing Granit Xhaka, the talented Swiss midfielder from Borussia Monchendgladbach, at the beginning of the transfer season. Yet, they find themselves falling behind their competitors. Manchester United have signed Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Eric Bailly, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in a matter of weeks; Pep Guardiola’s city signed Ilkay Gundogen and Nolito, Chelsea acquired the services of one of the PL’s players of the season in N’Golo Kante.
In isolation, these signings may not seem that alarming to Arsene Wenger’s London side. However, these sides have upgraded in terms of managers, while maintaining strong squads while already strengthening them substantially. Wenger is playing with hot water and its almost a necessity for Wenger to sign big name players just to keep up with his competitors.
Arsenal need firepower up front. Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck are not enough to compete with the offensive strengths of the other major sides in the Premier League. It’s been proven few times that its not enough to win the league, and now with Tottenham and Liverpool looking to further upset the order, might not be enough to secure top four.
Of course, Wenger has plenty of time to sign those players that would make Arsenal a more serious contender for honors next season, but if any of the last few seasons are anything to go by, danger looms large for the London side.
